About the Author: Dennis Dauble

Dennis Dauble retired in 2008 from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington, following a 35-year career as a fisheries scientist, to pursue a second career as an outdoor writer. He has a PhD in Fisheries from Oregon State University.

Dennis has served on science panels for Grant County Public Utility District, State of California and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for issues relating to Pacific salmon. He was an adjunct professor at the Washington State University, Tri-City branch campus in Richland, WA where he taught courses on Fish Ecology and the Biology and Management of Fishes.

Dennis has spoken widely to museums, public libraries, civic and sportsman groups on such topics as the history of fish and fishing in the Columbia Basin, ecology of fish-eating birds, water management conflicts, natural history of the Blue Mountains, and fly-fishing Blue Mountain streams.

Dennis is a member of the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association (NOWA), Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA), Pacific Northwest Writers Association (PNWA), Columbia Basin Flycasters (CBFC), Trout Unlimited (TU) and regularly contributes articles to newspapers and regional fishing magazines.

His first book, “Fishes of the Columbia Basin,” received an award of excellence from NOWA. “Chasing Ghost Trout,” was a finalist for book of the year for OWAA in 2021. “A Rustic Cabin” received 1st place, Excellence in Craft, from NOWA in 2024.
